Spotify has announced a new partnership with Universal Music Group to launch AI-powered music creation tools that will allow fans to generate song covers and remixes using artificial intelligence. The upcoming feature is expected to be available for Spotify Premium subscribers and could significantly change how users interact with music online.
The company revealed that users will soon be able to create AI-generated versions of songs from selected music catalogs. These tools are designed to let fans experiment with remixes, alternate vocals, and creative edits while remaining within officially licensed systems. Spotify stated that the new technology will focus on artist approval, proper licensing, and fair revenue distribution.
According to Spotify, artists who choose to participate in the program will receive compensation whenever their music is used in AI-generated content. The company also emphasized that musicians and rights holders will have full control over whether their songs can be included in these AI tools.
Spotify executives described the initiative as part of a broader strategy to develop artificial intelligence features responsibly. The streaming platform said its approach is based on “consent, credit, and compensation” for creators. Industry experts believe this model may help reduce copyright disputes that have affected other AI music companies in recent years.
The announcement comes as AI-generated music continues to grow rapidly across the entertainment industry. Platforms such as Suno and Udio have faced legal challenges from major record labels over copyright concerns and the use of copyrighted material in AI training systems. Spotify’s partnership with major music labels appears aimed at avoiding similar legal problems by using formal licensing agreements.
During its Investor Day event, Spotify also introduced additional AI-powered features, including audiobook narration tools, podcast production enhancements, and special ticket access for loyal fans. The company believes artificial intelligence could create new opportunities for artists while improving engagement for listeners.
