The tentative name spotted in the leak — “ChatGPT for Science” — seems to point to a version of the chatbot tailored toward academic and research work, not so much the usual everyday personal chats or casual business stuff. The clues reportedly turned up inside the web version of ChatGPT, so it looks like the feature is still in development and hasn’t rolled out publicly yet, at all.

How It Could Fit OpenAI’s Current Plans

Right now OpenAI offers ChatGPT through a few tiers — a standard personal plan, a Teams option for smaller businesses (with a requirement for a verified company domain), and an Enterprise tier for larger registered organizations. A science-focused subscription would probably follow that same general shape, but with access constrained to verified universities, labs, and research institutions, rather than being open to anyone running a regular company.

This wouldn’t be OpenAI’s first step into research specific tools. The company already offers GPT-Rosalind, a model built on its more advanced GPT-5.5 framework, designed for life sciences and bigger, large-scale research work. It reportedly runs on a “trusted-access deployment structure,” which basically means access is currently limited to organizations like pharmaceutical companies and some select approved institutions. So a broader “ChatGPT for Science” subscription could extend similar abilities to a wider set of academic and research groups, and it might do that without forcing a direct partnership with OpenAI, directly.
