Previously, users had no option to correct mistakes in comments once they were posted, often forcing them to delete and rewrite their responses. With this new feature, users can now easily fix typos or adjust their wording without removing the original comment.

How the Comment Editing Feature Works

The editing tool comes with a 15-minute time limit, giving users a short window to make changes after posting. During this period, comments can be edited multiple times if needed, making it easier to refine messages.

Once a comment has been modified, an “edited” label will appear to indicate that changes were made. However, the platform does not show the original version of the comment, maintaining a clean and simple interface.

Limitations of the Feature

There are a few restrictions to keep in mind. The editing option is only available for text-based comments. If a comment includes images or other media, it cannot be edited after posting.

This feature is part of ongoing efforts by Meta to improve usability across its platforms. Many users had been requesting this option for years, and its introduction reflects a response to user feedback.

The feature was spotted by some users during testing phases, indicating a gradual rollout before becoming widely available.

Along with comment editing, Instagram has also introduced new safety measures, especially for younger users. These updates include restricting access to certain types of content for teen accounts based on age-appropriate guidelines.
